Terms & conditions
Using Play Darbuka, looking after your music and managing your membership.
These terms explain the agreement between you and Calanur Limited when you use Play Darbuka. Please read them before creating an account or buying Pro, and contact us if anything is unclear. You can save or print this page for your records.

1. Who we are and when these terms apply
Play Darbuka is operated by Calanur Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under number 17148576. Our registered office is 124 City Road, London, England, EC1V 2NX. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Calanur Limited, and “you” means the person using the service.
These terms cover our website, practice tools, accounts, Pro membership and community features. They apply to free and paid use, with subscription provisions applying when you buy Pro. If you act for an organisation, you must have authority to do so. Any separately agreed written terms take priority where they expressly differ, subject to your mandatory consumer rights.

2. What Play Darbuka provides
Play Darbuka provides rhythm guides, audio playback, a metronome, training exercises, music creation and arrangement tools, and links to lessons. Free access includes the Basic and Classic patterns for each published rhythm and selected training samples. Pro adds the features described on the membership page, including additional variations, training tools, more account storage and community access.
Practice needs a compatible browser and device. Online features, account synchronisation and external videos need an internet connection. Playback depends on browser audio permissions and may stop when the app is in the background. You are responsible for your device and connectivity costs. The site is available in English, Arabic and Spanish.
3. Age, supervision and purchases
Play Darbuka is for people aged 13 and over. If you are aged 13–17, you may use it only with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. Children under 13 must not use the service.
Accounts and Pro subscriptions must be created and managed by an adult aged 18 or over. If you are aged 13–17 and want to use account or Pro features, your parent or legal guardian must hold and manage the account and any subscription for your supervised use.
The adult account holder must be legally able to enter this agreement and authorised to use the payment method for any purchase. A parent or legal guardian who permits supervised use is responsible for managing the account, purchases and community sharing. Do not misrepresent your age or put children’s identifying information in shared music or community reports.
4. Your account and security
Use an email address you control, keep account information current, and protect your password and recovery messages. Some features require email verification. Do not sell access to your account, impersonate someone else or use another person’s account without permission.
Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. You are responsible for the use you authorise; this does not make you responsible for losses caused by our failure to take reasonable care. You can review sessions and manage sign-in details from your account.
5. Using the service fairly
- Respect people and their rights. Do not post unlawful, hateful, threatening, harassing, fraudulent, privacy-invasive or infringing material, or use the community for spam.
- Protect the service. Do not upload malicious files, access accounts or data without permission, disrupt the service or bypass payment, security or access controls.
- Respect reasonable limits. Do not automate bulk extraction of protected content or overwhelm the service with requests. Technical limits protect availability and do not limit ordinary local practice playback.
We may limit abusive activity or investigate reports. Where practical, we will explain a restriction and give you a chance to correct a minor problem. Urgent security threats, serious abuse and unlawful activity may require immediate action.
6. Your music, local files and backups
You keep any rights you hold in music, scores, descriptions and other material you create or import. You must have permission to use material belonging to someone else. Saving it does not transfer its ownership to us.
For material you save to your account, you give us a non-exclusive permission, without a royalty payment, to store, copy, process and transmit it as needed to provide synchronisation, playback, support and security. This permission applies wherever our service providers operate and is limited to those purposes. Community sharing requires the additional permission below.
Guests can save one rhythm and one arrangement locally. Free accounts can save three rhythms and three arrangements across devices. Pro supports up to 500 saved rhythms, arrangements and scores in total. Each account document can be up to 1 MiB. If a collection exceeds the Free allowance after Pro expires, it remains available to play, export and delete; editing resumes when it is within the Free limit or Pro is renewed. Reference audio and other reference files remain on your device. Keep exports of work you value: clearing browser storage, losing a device or deleting an account can remove copies. After Pro expires, your existing account music remains available to view and export while the account exists; Pro editing and synchronisation features may be restricted.
7. Publishing rhythms and moderation
Publishing is a separate choice from saving privately. By publishing, you allow us to display the saved rhythm and your chosen display name to other eligible Pro members and allow those members to play it through Play Darbuka. This does not give them ownership of your work or a general right to sell or redistribute it.
You can unpublish a rhythm. This stops it being available through the community, but cannot recall copies already made by others. Editing your private original does not automatically replace the published snapshot; use the sharing controls to update it.
Publish only material you are entitled to share. We may remove or restrict a publication that infringes rights, exposes personal information or breaks these terms, and may restrict publishing after serious or repeated misuse. Use the report control or contact support for copyright concerns, abuse or a review of a moderation decision. Reports may be retained as explained in the privacy policy.
8. Our content and third-party licences
Our software, branding, original articles and catalogue materials belong to Calanur Limited or their respective owners. Your plan permits use of the features it includes for their intended learning and practice purposes. A subscription does not transfer ownership of the catalogue or grant a general right to redistribute protected recordings, scores or software.
Some recordings, images and other materials have their own licences and attribution notices. Those licences continue to apply and may grant broader reuse rights; these terms do not remove them. Follow the applicable credits and licence conditions. We do not claim exclusive rights over traditional rhythms or material in the public domain.
If you offer feedback, we may use your suggestions to improve Play Darbuka without paying for the suggestion. This does not transfer rights in your saved music.
9. External lessons and practice guidance
Videos, linked websites and some media are supplied by independent providers. Their own terms and privacy practices apply when you use their services. They may change or remove content, restrict countries or require connectivity. Linking to a lesson does not make its creator our employee or imply that they endorse Play Darbuka.
Musical traditions, notation and teaching approaches vary. Exercises and generated patterns are learning aids, and we do not promise a particular learning result. Choose a comfortable practice pace and volume and take breaks. Nothing here reduces our responsibility for the service we supply.
10. Pro subscriptions, prices and payment
Pro is a subscription paid upfront monthly, every 3 months or annually, according to your chosen billing option. It renews automatically until cancelled. Check the membership page and checkout for the features, price, currency, billing interval, applicable taxes and any promotion. The amount payable is shown before you confirm your order. There is no commitment to a further billing period once you cancel renewal in time.
Stripe processes payments and provides billing management. When you subscribe, you authorise the agreed recurring payments. Paid access starts once payment is confirmed; a successful return from checkout alone is not confirmation. Your account shows membership status and access dates.
If a renewal payment fails, payment recovery may be attempted. Already-paid access normally continues to its expiry; a failed renewal does not grant a new paid period. Any discount applies only on the conditions shown with the offer.
Any proposed price increase for an existing subscription will be explained in advance, including its reason and start date, with enough time to cancel before paying it. It will not change a period already paid for. We will seek your agreement where the law requires it.
11. Cancellation, refunds and consumer rights
To stop renewal, open Account, choose Manage subscription and cancel in billing management before the next renewal. You can also notify us by email or through the support page, including if you cannot sign in. Ordinary cancellation keeps Pro available until the end of the paid period, with no separate cancellation fee. Simply closing the browser or stopping practice does not cancel a subscription.
UK consumers normally have a right to cancel an online subscription without giving a reason during the 14 days after the day the contract is made. Tell us clearly that you wish to exercise that right. We do not treat accessing Pro as, by itself, a waiver of it. Any lawful deduction for services supplied during that period requires the information and express request required by law. A refund due under this cancellation right will be made within 14 days of your notice, using the same payment method unless you agree otherwise, without a refund fee.
You also have rights where digital content is faulty or misdescribed or a service is not provided with reasonable care and skill. Depending on the circumstances, these may include a correction, repeat performance, a price reduction or a refund. These terms do not limit those rights or other mandatory protections in your country.
Outside legal entitlements or an offer stating otherwise, cancelling renewal because you change your mind does not normally entitle you to a refund for unused time in the current paid period. Contact support with your account email, relevant charge and the reason for your request so we can consider it. Do not send full card details or passwords.
A full refund removes paid access for the refunded period; a partial refund normally leaves that period’s access in place. A payment dispute may suspend the access associated with that payment while it is unresolved. These access rules do not remove your right to dispute a payment or seek a remedy. A refund alone may not stop renewal: ask us to cancel as well if that is what you want.
Deleting your account cancels active billing and ends account access immediately; it does not automatically issue a refund. You can still contact us about any refund or other rights after deletion.

12. Privacy and your information
Our privacy policy explains account and billing information, saved music, community sharing, support messages, browser storage, optional analytics, external providers and your data rights. Please avoid adding unnecessary personal information to music titles, descriptions or community reports.
13. Availability, maintenance and changes
We will provide Play Darbuka with reasonable care and skill. Maintenance, faults, connectivity and changes to external services can interrupt particular features. We do not promise uninterrupted access or that every device will behave identically.
We may add, update, reorganise, replace or remove rhythms, exercises, videos, articles and other learning materials to correct errors, improve teaching quality, or address licensing, legal or technical requirements. The selection of individual items may therefore change over time.
We may make proportionate changes to fix faults, improve compatibility or security, or comply with the law. For a change that materially reduces paid content or a paid feature, we will explain it in advance where practical and provide an appropriate option to end the affected service and obtain any refund due for unused prepaid access. If we discontinue a paid service without fault on your part, we will return payment for the part we cannot supply.
14. Suspension, termination and account deletion
We may restrict or end access for a serious or repeated breach, fraud, a material security risk, a legal requirement or non-payment for the affected paid period. Restrictions should be proportionate. Where practical, we will explain the reason and give you an opportunity to resolve a problem or challenge a mistake; urgent protection may require action first.
You may stop using the service, cancel renewal or delete your account. Account deletion removes cloud music, favourites, preferences, publications and likes. Necessary billing and moderation records may remain under the privacy policy. Local device copies and downloaded exports are not erased remotely. Export anything you want to keep before deleting.
Ending access does not remove accrued consumer rights, valid refund claims or sums lawfully owed. Terms about ownership, permitted existing uses, responsibility and disputes continue to apply where relevant.
15. Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of breaking our agreement or failing to use reasonable care and skill. A loss is foreseeable if it was an obvious consequence or was contemplated when the agreement was made. We do not exclude responsibility for faulty digital content, including applicable rights where it damages your device or other digital content.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability or consumer right that the law does not allow us to exclude. We do not apply a subscription-fee cap to consumers’ legal remedies.
Play Darbuka is supplied for learning and practice. For consumers, we are not responsible for business losses such as lost profits or business opportunities. Events outside our reasonable control may affect delivery, but do not remove any cancellation, refund or other remedy the law gives you.
16. Updates to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes in the law, security needs or the service. The date at the top identifies this version. We will explain material changes and give reasonable advance notice through the service or by email, unless a legal or urgent security reason requires an earlier change.
Changes will not retrospectively remove rights relating to payments or events that have already occurred. Where a change materially disadvantages a paid member, we will explain the options to reject it, end the affected service and obtain any refund due. Any consent required by law will be requested separately.
17. Governing law and disputes
The laws of England and Wales govern these terms. Consumers keep the mandatory protections of the law where they live and any right to bring a claim in their local courts. These terms do not require consumers to use only the courts of England and Wales.
For use in the course of a business, disputes are subject to the courts of England and Wales unless we agree otherwise in writing. If a provision cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions continue so far as they can lawfully operate.
18. Contact and complaints
For questions, cancellation, refunds, copyright concerns or complaints, contact Calanur Limited by email, through the support page, or by post at our registered office. Include enough information to identify the issue and your preferred resolution. We will review it and explain our response; contacting us does not prevent you from exercising your legal rights.
